Calculation methodology

Deterministic calculations

Electrical Calc Lab uses deterministic calculation logic. The same valid inputs and calculation mode should produce the same numerical result.

Runtime AI is not used to generate calculator answers.

Formulas and assumptions

Calculator pages should show the formula or method used and disclose material assumptions, such as phase system, voltage convention, current convention or power-factor treatment.

Sources

Use primary or authoritative sources when a calculator depends on standards, codes or published technical data.

Competitor calculators may be used as sanity checks, but they are not authoritative calculation sources.

Validation and testing

Calculation logic is tested with known-answer fixtures, invalid inputs and boundary cases.

Presentation and calculator logic remain separated so calculation behavior can be reviewed independently of page design.

Standards and versioning

Physics-only calculations do not receive NEC or other standards metadata simply because the audience includes electricians.

Where a calculator genuinely uses standards-derived rules or data, the site should identify the relevant standard, edition, scope, source and material assumptions.

Rounding and display

Internal calculations may retain more precision than the displayed answer.

Displayed precision is part of each calculator's approved specification and must not silently change the underlying raw calculation.

Corrections

If you identify a possible formula, source, accessibility or calculation issue, contact Electrical Calc Lab.

Limitations

Calculator output is a calculation aid, not a substitute for verifying applicable design, installation, safety or code requirements.
